Saturday

I did both the Masters 35+ and the Pro 1/2 criteriums.  I wasn't sure how my legs would feel until after I raced the 35+.  The Masters were well stacked with 3 strong Texas Roadhouse guys and a couple of Oxford dudes, plus some others I can't quite remember.  I didn't have any teammates but I guess I'm used to racing without teammates.  The race started out FAST and really didn't let up much.  There were plenty of attacks at the beginning from several teams, but was quickly reeled in.   Everybody pretty much stayed together until 2 laps to go when Dave McNeil rolled off the front and I beleive he took Tony Scott with him.  I tried to fight for position and was in 6th by the 3rd to last corner, but it didn't work out for me and ended up 10th or 11th.   The race was relatively short (30 minutes) and damn too short for me!

The Pro 1/2 race was different.  My goal was to just hang on with the well stacked racers from hell.  For this race, I thanked god that it was only short (45" plus 3 laps) because I was practically seeing stars during the last lap.  Attacks were coming from all different directions especially when it was hard to see under the bridge and there wasn't any light so if you turned your head, it was likely you'd overlap wheels and crash at a high speed.  Mike Lanham crashed with Frank Moak from Herring Gas and it was a good thing it happened on the small short rise instead on the downhill, right guys?  They quickly recovered and rejoined.   Boy, I sure slept well that night.

 Sunday

To my surprise I had great legs today, but luck wasn't in my favor.  I missed the break (I tend to for some reason...)  and it stayed away for 4 out of 5 laps.  Craig Armstrong from Antarus bridged to the break and it was the 4 of them which we never saw again.  I stayed in the front and controlled the group along with Tim Heard as we both had guys in the break.  Other teams tried to get away but couldn't until we were approaching the feed zone before the last lap, some unattached dude with hairy legs, an Oxford guy and Ron Swope from Marx & Bensdorf attacked.  Of course, I didn't see it since I was in the middle of the pack going up the hill.  What was I thinking?  The race was over for me in terms of getting in the money, but I wanted to have some fun and told myself that I'm gonna beat Jim Brock in the sprint and I think I did!  :-)
