Team training camp time! So that we can all hang out, meet each other, etc, I’m hosting a training camp in Pelham, Alabama (near Oak Mountain State Park) this weekend. Everyone who is affiliated with a Tristar club/team and or would like to join us to meet the guys and girls in the Tristar family to see if you would like to join Tristar. Basically, if you want to ride, come out and join us! Regardless if you are a member or not! If you are a junior rider, then you are especially welcome! Tristar's mission is for the development of the younger athlete and we want you! The camp will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday-Feb 20, 21, 22.
Here is the general format: Friday February 20th | Meet up at 214 Eagle Cove Lane Pelham, AL 35124 for a 2-3 hour easy ride inside of Oak Mountain State Park. Bring $2 to get in. The road is essentially a 20 mile out and back, but this will be the easiest thing to do on a Friday afternoon. | We’ll meet up at 3 and roll out at 3:30-6:30 ish. If you can’t make it by this time, you can park inside of Oak Mountain (at the horse park on the left just as you come inside the park) and you can join us. Since it’s inside the park, it will be easy to find us. | Friday Post Ride | We’ll meet somewhere for dinner. To be decided. We can do whatever you guys want to do. There is no shortage of eating places. | | Saturday 9 a.m. | We’ll meet again at 214 Eagle Cove Lane and do a 3-5 hour ride. Depending on what your desire is, we’ll split into two groups…one for the 3 hour and one for the 5 hour. We’ll ride together and not aim to beat each other up | This won’t be a hammer fest to see whose is “bigger”. This is a get to know each other ride and to get in some good training. With this said, you’ll still need to be in something that resembles fitness. | Saturday post ride lunch | Everyone can fend for themselves on this | | Saturday p.m. | Meet up at my house (214 Eagle Cove Lane) to hang out, truly get to talk to each other. Talk about 2009. I plan on having a dinner catered in (get everyone to chip in to cover the cost probably $12 each give or take). We can hang out and drink beverages of choice. Talk cycling or whatever. We’ll simply have a good time and enjoy each other’s company | | Sunday | We’ll do a training race that is north of Birmingham. We can do a casual team breakfast at the Waffle House or at the IHOP or wherever you desire, if you so desire. | http://www.gsmontagnarossa.com/Training_Race_Series.html | Sunday post race | We’ll have a short get together and discuss what went right, wrong, observations, etc, etc. | | Lodging Information | · There are several hotels on Hwy 119 (Cahaba Valley Road). These hotels are about 2 miles from Oak Mountain (I don’t recommend riding on State Park Road) and about 3 miles from my house. There is an abundance of restaurants in the area. The Hampton and Holiday Inn Express, as well as several other hotels, are located there. · I have a buddy that can put one guy on a couch (he has a cat). He lives close by (riding distance from the house). · Matt Lovoy can put one or two guys up.

· I have two bedrooms and some couches. Mike O and Joseph Bolton have “dibs” on the bed rooms. I have couches and floors (I also have a cat and a dog if you are allergic). You are more than welcome to pile in. | | RSVP | If you are planning on attending, please let me know…especially if you need a place to stay or plan on eating dinner Saturday night. | | Notes | · Slight modifications might be made, but this is the general format. · This camp isn’t a requirement for those of you who are planning on racing as a cat 4 or lower. If you’re going to do the regional format or higher, please do your best to come to at least the Saturday and Sunday so that we can all meet each other. · I have a guy who will be building up team bikes for those of you getting the frames. Please let me know if you need a bike built. He can do some on Friday and some on Saturday p.m. His charge is $100 to do this, so if you want your bike built up and built up quickly (he is a meticulous former Marine that has been building bikes for 20 years), Dustin can do it. Simply bring your bike (washed) and if you need cables please bring those so he doesn’t have to use his stash. Please bring your $100 as well. You can do the build yourself, but if you want the fork cut, epoxy applied to the fork and have it in time for the Saturday ride or the Sunday race, Dustin is available. | | Last Thing | · Please, feel free to bring any junior rider or younger rider to the camp. This camp will be a low key event and will be suited for younger riders. If there are several new riders, I can arrange a chaperone for them if they don’t or can’t do the full 3 hours or 5 hours. I’ll need to know in advance. | | |
